// WHAT ABOUT PRIVACY?
Companies are generally allowed to monitor their cars’ travel during work hours if this is done to achieve a clear and legitimate goal, e.g. improve organization and efficiency, increase service quality, security or reduce operational costs, to name a few.
A special notice to authorities of monitoring is unnecessary, as is a written consent of drivers but it is important that all employees are notified of the monitoring in good time and in a clear manner. This is usually done at a staff meeting or via email to concerning staff.
It should be noted that monitoring with secrecy is prohibited.
Obviously there is a clear line between work hours and free time and companies are not permitted to monitor trips outside of working hours if employees have free use of them outside of work. It is therefore important that monitoring is not enabled during off-hours.
